Strength: The ability of the neuromuscular system to produce internal tension to overcome an external force.

Traditionally, resistance –training programs have focused on developing maximal strength in individual muscles, emphasizing on plane of motion. Because all muscle function eccentrically, isometrically, and concentrically in all three planes of motion at different speeds, our training program uses a progressive approach that emphasizes the appropriate exercise selection, all muscle actions, and repetition tempos.

Strength adaptations obtained from resistance is divided into three main categories of stabilization, strength and power. Each adaptation can be defined by the emphasis that is placed on the neuromuscular system, and all occur in a progressive sequence: stabilization before strength; strength before power.
